2026-11-04

• Hidden tags now apply to the filters. Tags added under Settings → Search suggestions stay out of the filters on the search results page and collection pages, not only out of the tag chips. Shops that don't use the chips can add them too
• The option filters (size, color and so on) can be turned off in the block settings. Use "Show option filter" on the Search Results Page block in the theme editor. They still show by default

2026-11-02

• Excluded tags now apply to search. Products carrying one of the tags set in the admin are dropped from the results, the filter counts, the collection pages, the zero-result strip and the recommended products. Until now the setting was saved but never read. A change takes effect on the next search, with no resync (Admin controls)

2026-11-01

• Japanese typo correction is now on by default. When a search finds few products, it also looks for words close to what was typed. Until now it ran only with fuzzy=true. To turn it off in Search API v1, send fuzzy=false (or 0) (see the query parameters and how search works, §5).
• Recommended products are picked under Settings → Search suggestions (Pro). The products for the empty header search and for a search that finds nothing, and the products above the search results, are chosen with Shopify's product picker.

2026-10-16

• Search API v1 now gives reviews. Each product carries its rating as results[].rating ({ average, count, source }), with the rating facet facets.ratings, the rating sort sort=rating and the star filter filter_rating. A new type=reviews lists a product's published reviews, newest first (see the field reference and the review list). Existing fields are unchanged.
• Search API v1 products now carry metafields. Each product in results[] returns the values of the metafields enabled as "Use as a filter" in the admin, as { name, label?, values[] } where values is an array of value strings (see the field reference). Existing fields are unchanged.

2026-09-09

• Search API v1 published. Requests carrying contract=v1 are guaranteed the shape described in the specification. Available on the Pro plan and above.
